Tiger Hills Darjeeling

View of Tiger Hills  before dawn is a must for all Darjeeling visitors who want to see sunrise over the Mt Kanchenjungha. Tiger Hill is 2590 m or 8,500 Ft. above sea level and 11 kms from town (45 min). From Tiger Hill, just the top of Mount (29,002') is visible, peeping out through two other peaks standing by its side. The peak that looks highest is that of Makalu (27,799'). These three peaks are seen to the north-west a little left of Phalut. Everest looks smaller than any of its two sisters, although Everest is not only taller than both of them, but the highest peak in the world, the distance in straight line of Everest from Tiger Hill being 106 miles. This process arises from the fact that Everest is several miles beyond them and only a part its top is visible over line of sight that is from Tiger hills . It is 11 km from town of Darjeeling and can be reached either by jeep or by foot through Chowrasta, Alubari (incidentally the oldest tea plantation in Darjeeling  Jore Bungla and then the incline up to the summit, which takes about 2.5 hours on an easy pace. While at Tiger Hill, you can also visit Senchel sanctuary, which offers great picnic spots, and its two artificial lakes serve as a reservoir for supply of water to Darjeeling town.
