Courteous Mr. William Lloyd offered his piece of land to the Government of Darjeeling to form a Botanical Garden. The land given by this lad was thus converted into a Botanical Garden - today known as Lloyds Botanical Garden. The year was 1878. Situated at an elevation of 6000ft, Lloyds Botanical Garden is a sub - branch of the Indian Botanical Garden.
Dr. T Anderson was the one who took the work of developing the Garden in his hands. It has the rare collection of Himalayan Flowers, orchids and many more flora species.Succulent section of plants forms a separate conservatory greenhouse for them.Covering an area of 40 acres, the Lloyds Botanical Garden has the most beautiful Alpine and Himalayan Flowers ever seen. It has a number of sections like the Cacti house, a small library, students garden and the medicinal garden. All the sections have their own cultivations and subjects. The beauty of the garden is increased by the Himalayan range which runs at the background forming magnificent layers.
The whole line of the Himalayan range changes its colors with the changing weather of Darjeeling with best colors found in intense cold weather around February . The landscape beauty of the Lloyds Botanical Garden is beyond words. The vast sprawl of the Lloyds Botanical Garden has a number of sections to explore:
